86 toast! is...over

devotees of berkeley's former bartavelle were given the gift of time when, after the cafe and wine bar's closure after 12 years on september 15, 2024, the team chose to linger for a while.

86 toast! from bartavelle was a "scrappy little coffee and pastry service" in the cafe's cozy space, with light weekly morning hours (coffee, porridge, pastries, baguette sandwiches), occasional special events, and collaborations with the team's many local industry and pop-up friends (sesame, a tiny bakery, egg pals, good luck bakery, etc.).

the limbo concept lasted for an impressive eight months, both longer than people expected and... not long enough. now, really truly, as announced on bartavelle/86 toast's instagram, the cafe at 1621 san pablo avenue has been sold, and all bartavelle and 86 toast-related service will end with a few closing events this week, including a final big party and friends of bartavelle market from 10am to 1pm this saturday, may 31, 2025. (ps the new owners, the team assures, will keep the lovely space as a cafe going forward).
