festive mexican bar and restaurant mercado 925 at 925 university avenue, an easy west berkeley staple for sit-down mexican dining and drinks since 2023 from restaurateur juan romo (casa latina, la mission), more than doubled its size this month with the soft opening of annex m925 market.

the spacious mezcal and tequila-focused bar and bottle shop (there is also craft rum, whiskey, wine and beer) doubles as an impressively large, airy dining room – the space connects with the lower-lit original restaurant but has its own, almost tropical vibe, with high ceilings, rattan furnishings, comfortable bar spaces and a pretty, semi-private mezzanine.

note: the restaurant is open on monday nights. it also features mexican brunch, a menu of weekday happy hour specials, and on our evening visit we noted a comfortable range of casual dates, families and intimate special events sharing the expanded space.
