the dreaded 'special announcement' from rick & ann's

as east bay brunch fans have no doubt already heard, beloved comfort-food breakfast and brunch institution rick & ann's has announced on its website that its last day will be august 3, 2025, after 36 years.

"I hope I get the chance to say goodbyes to all of you over the next few months," said the farewell post from owner ann lauer (rick left the business around 2015). "I’m looking forward to the next phase of my life. I will be involved in the community and traveling. I will miss rick & ann’s restaurant and all of you."

in the announcement, lauer also gives special acknowledgement to two previous members of the (expansive) rick & ann's team, husband and wife entrepreneurs john and lois solomon, who partnered with rick and ann to open the restaurant at 2922 domingo avenue in berkeley in 1989.

in excellent news, lauer plans to keep her thriving company ann's catering seamlessly in operation from a new location.
